Misa doesn't die from jumping off a building. If you read the manga, it doesn't say, but in the special edition Death Note 13: How to Read, by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Ohba Sensei says that he hasn't really thought about how Misa-Misa would die, and Obata-senei states that he would think that Matsuda and Aizawa would have lied to Misa and told her that Light died in a accident, because Misa relinquished ownership of the Death Note, she wouldn't remember Light was Kira, and she fell into a deep depression and commited suicide, Via hand gun.

There you go. Plain and Simple. Misa-Misa and Light Yagami's true death.

Light's (or Raiga's) death was different in the anime and the manga. In the manga, Light tries to write Near's name, but Matsuda shoots him in time. Light, having no other options, begs Ryuk to kill all of them. Ryuk, as he earlier said, is neither on Light's or Near's sides. He then writes down Light's name, like he also said. Then anime is pretty much the same, except after getting shot, Light escapes while everyone is distracted by Teru committing suicide with a pen. Aizawa and Mogi ask Near if they can follow him. Near says it'd be pointless, but they can. He limps to an abandoned warehouse. Ryuk, who is watching from a building, says, "It's been fun Light, but I'm just not interested anymore. If you were locked up, who knows when you'd be out. I can't just sit around forever." He then kills Light. As Light is dying, the ghost of L stands next to Light, saying "Good game Yagami..."

But to the police, Kira is just a mass murderer, that is cold and ruthless, killing people no matter if they are criminals or not.

No, Light Yagami is not, in the literal sense, a shinigami. Although he considers himself a god and is looked upon as a god by most people by the end of the series, he is not like the real shinigami that hail from the shinigami realm (such as Ryuk and Rem).

Thanks to a cryptic deleted scene from the anime which features a strange shinigami who Ryuk seems to refer to as "Light", however, many fans have speculated on the matter. Canonically speaking, though, Light is not and does not become a shinigami in either the manga or the anime.
