I have 6 hermits. Once they decide to change shells, they do it very quickly. They are vunerable without the protection of their shell. I have 7 hermits. I have seen 4 of them change. It would probobly take about 10 seconds.
It usually takes anywhere from 4-8 weeks. The bigger the crab the longer it takes. My hermit crab has been in and out of molting about 5 times. He molts about once a year for a month each time.
The frequency with which a hermit crab molts varies, depending on the size and growth rate of the crab. Smaller, quickly growing hermit crabs may molt every few months, while larger crabs may only molt once a year or so.
its a stage in there life in witch a young hermit gets a new layer of skin older hermits will do this butt not as offten so keep them extra moist and leave plently of shells to move into and molting WILL MOSTLY start at a young age.

It can take a few days to a couple months.
It takes about 3-8 weeks for a hermit to molt. They need time to molt and get a hard 'Plate of Armour'. Smaller hermies molt more than big ones.
Large hermit crabs molt longer and sometimes up to 4 months. It is very important they have the proper nutrients and tank conditions to have a successful molt. you cannot touch them during that period for they are very vulnerable during molting period. hermit crabs can molt a couple times a year.
The frequency of a hermit crab's molt relies on two main factors: size and environment.
Smaller crabs will molt very frequently and for shorter periods of time where a larger crab may only molt twice a year but stay down for months when it does.
If conditions (in the wild or captivity) are not ideal for a molt (this includes the availability of upgrade shells) the crab will actually secrete a hormone that puts the molt off for a while. If it goes too long without molting, it will be forced to molt wherever it is (very dangerous) or die.
Hermit crabs molt for acouples weeks, to months. Leave them alone if you disturb them they can get so stressed out they will die :(
a hermit crab molts when it gets bigger.
just until they find the right shell
they use their muscles
yes
yes acoshonly
Invertebrates, because they need to molt to grow. Hermit crabs molt underground and can stay there for weeks to months to learn more about molting please follow the link below this answer. Thanks ;)
the hermit crab ecosystem is really interesying!you see,all they do is molt! the hermit crab ecosystem is really interesying!you see,all they do is molt! the hermit crab ecosystem is really interesying!you see,all they do is molt!
Yes, they must molt in order to grow.
No, Hermit Crabs molt due to bodily changes. After molting they find new shells to fit their new body.
Yes crustaceans do molt because they have exoskeletons meaning they have and outer shell. I believe. every 2 years or months they molt out of their shells. in other words, they leave their shell
No, they are invertebrates, meaning they need to molt their skin to grow an example is a snake, they don't grow, they molt their skin to grow, just like the hermit crab.
Birds and reptiles both do. Some insects and arachnids molt. Birds molt feathers from time to time. Reptiles molt their top layer of skin. Animals with exoskeletens, such as hermit crabs, also molt.
Hermit crabs molt when they feel the need to. Nothing is wrong with your crab if it hasn't molted. :)
Whenever they molt, they get bigger. People dont know how fast exactly, but many times a year.
