A person should use disk defrag weekly to keep computer from slowing down but you only have to do it when it does slow down.

reorganizing the disk Defragmentation actually reorganizes the disk.

Use a defragmentation tool. In Windows, you can do this using the Disk Defragmenter tool, which is accessible from Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.

Defragmentation is a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation in file systems.

Defragmentation is the process of rewriting non-contiguous parts of a file to contiguous sectors on a disk for the purpose of increasing data access and retrieval speeds. Because FAT and NTFS disks can deteriorate and become badly fragmented over time, defragmentation is vital for optimal system performance.

Typically, doing a disk defragmentation (found in Accessories -> System Tools) will accomplish this.

Disk Derangement is a tool that rearranges the data on your hard disk and reunites fragmented files so your computer can run more efficiently.

If a disk is fragmented, this means that the files in your computer are spread out all over the disk taking up too much space. This can be corrected by defragmentation which consolidate all the data.

Go to Start then all programs, put your mouse on accessories then system tools and click on Disk Defragmenter. It moves around files on your disk so that they are not so spread out so your disk has to spin less.

They are tools to re-arrange the space in a hard disk trough time all files in the hard disk need to be arranged so the hard disk can have more life and your computer will operate smoother.

Yes, you can cancel the defragmentation process before it is complete. It is probably a good idea to re-run the defragmentation at some point in the future, but failure to do so will not harm your computer.

Disk defragmentation organises the file structure of harddisk by gathering files that are stored in fragments & piecing them together to form a large fragments. It makes the drive function more quickly & reduce the amount of hops to read single file. Disk clean up will delete all the junk & temporary files & will increase the speed of ur computer by creating more space

How do you defragmantaion answermYou simply download a defragmentation program to do it. (I use Auslogics Disk Defrag.) The benefits of defragging your computer can mean faster access to files and greater stabilty. AnswerGo to "Start", "accesories", "system tools" then select "Disk defragmentation". You should stop all applications to run defrag. Sometimes you need to boot in "safe" mode so that you don't start up all of the background applications.

Defragmentation leads to performance improvements, when used with traditional disk drives, when accessing data which was previously scattered across the surface of the media. This is because head movements and cluster seek operations are reduced in numbers, as the scattered data is combined into fewer, larger, chunks. Note that this effect only applies to those drives which use mechanical and moving heads; any solid state drive will not benefit in this manner. The primary disadvantage of defragmentation are the substantial processing requirements; defragmenting a drive is time and power consuming, and it is generally not advisable to use the disk for any other purpose during this process, as this further slows down the process, and might reduce its effectiveness. Another significant disadvantage of defragmentation is the inherit risk in the operation. Defragmentation re-organizes data on the disk on a very low level, and any error in the process, caused by power failure, disk failure, or software errors in the defragmentation software itself are potentially unrecoverable and severe. With the emergence of increasingly fast drives, the growing popularity of sold-state drives, modern file systems (less prone to fragmentation), and clever caching strategies built into modern operating systems, defragmentation is considerably less important and beneficial than it once was, as its disadvantages begin outweighing the benefits.

It's use to erase and clean all files on the disk removing viruses and unnecessary files. Use also to install new Operating system to the disk if disk in particular is use on a computer system.

Use it regularly, as part of a scheduled maintenance program. Keeping your hard-drive de-fragmented will help your computer by keeping files, programs etc ordered on the disc. A good schedule is once a week.

When files are created/edited/deleted they cause gaps in your hard drive structure. When a high level of fragmentation is reached (15% and above) your system will become slower as your hard drive has to look through a structure which now has several gaps which cause slower response times. Using disk defragmentation tools allows these gaps to be closed and all your files moved into easily read blocks for your hard drive to search through in times to come. -------------------------------------- Defragmentation also moves the most used files to the begining of the disk for quicker access.

Disk defragmentation helps to keep the HDD activity smooth and fast thus preventing lags in the opening of files, programs etc. Another important advantage is that if you defrag regularly, you dont need to wait for ages before your PC starts or shuts down. It contributes to maintaining good speed and performance of your system.

If a system is on 24-7, scheduling defragmentation for off-hours means there is less activity on the computer, thus less disk access and no one running applications whose performance might be affected.

It depends: If you are using MS-DOS/Windows operating system, file fragmentation can slow disk access if it becomes excessive. Defragmentation will improve your performance. If you are using Linux/Unix/Mac OS X files do not become fragmented. If you plan to defragment your drive, you can optimize file location by using 3rd party disk defragmenters e.g., Norton Speed Disk. The strategy is to move more frequently accessed files to the locations nearer the center of the hard disk where they can be accessed faster. If you don't feel the need for spending a lot to gain little, you can use the built-in disk defragmenter by right clicking on the drive icon in 'My Computer', select 'Properties' and click on 'Defragmentation' from the 'Tools' tab.

Defragmentation. In Windows: Click: Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter

Defragmentation is the process of taking the fragments of a large file and putting them together. Defragmentation increases computer performance drastically.

It puts files into one block, whereas before defragmentation it is still one file, but may be stored in different sections of the disc.

I don't know what computer you have, but if it is windows you can run a defragmentation of the drive, dump your unused programs, and clean memory.
