For most breeds it is 7-9 months of age. Depends on the dog, not the breed, (in my experience.) If you plan on breeding her, wait for the second heat. If you plan on having her fixed, contact your vet as to when would be a good time.

Dogs have two "seasons" per year. My female is just now comming out of hers, so now, and about 6 month from now. She was born in March, and came "in heat", the very next season after birth. However, I have to say, breeding them that young, would have negative effects on her. Stunt her growth, change her attitude, ect. If that is your intent, and she is your dog, I would wait until about 2 years, or so. And if your trying to make money from her, I pray, you dont get a penny. Just go to your nearest dog shelter, and walk through. You will see my point..........Chuck.

Bitches do not go through menopause, but the cycles will become irregular as she gets older.

However, if you spay your dog, she will no longer have her cycle.

Pit Bulls, as with any breed of dog, should be at least one year of age before breeding. Also, be sure they are healthy, have all their shots and are of a good weight.
