ANSWER:Scientists believe that an asteroid six to 12 miles in diameter hit an area in Chicxulub, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico approximately 64.98 million years ago. This asteroid impact threw up billions of tons of dust into the atmosphere and blocked out the sunlight for almost half of a year, dropping the temperatures down to freezing. This killed most of the vegetation and half of the species living on the Earth at the time, including all of the large dinosaurs. This coincided with the fossilized remains showing that fossils of large dinosaurs stopped occurring in the timeline of the rock approximately 65 million years ago. 65 million years ago.A still poorly known subject.

In fact, the dinosauridia were in an extintion process tens of thousends of years before major metheor/comet impact about 65 millions of years, in Mexico.

The only place in Earth - as far as we know from fossil records - where sauropods and therapods (the T-Rex is a remarkable exemple) were still florishing, was in western North America continent.

In the Late Cretacious seas, the mistery about several reptilian species extintion is even deeper.

Mosasauroideais gone, but not giant crocodiles, among other gigantic reptilia...
