International Mother Language Day is an observance held annually on 21 February worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. It was first announced by UNESCO on 17 November 1999. Its observance was also formally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution establishing 2008 as the International Year of Languages.

Many, many countries celebrate a Mother's Day, but it has not been organized into an International event like International Women's' Day has been. Individual countries celebrate Mother's Day on various dates throughout the year. It is not known as Mother's Day in all countries, either. For example, in the UK, it is known as Mothering Sunday. In the US, Canada, Australia and many other countries, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. In the UK, Mothering Sunday is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent.
