The 2012 Texas Primary elections had to be postponed from April 3 to May 29 due to a legal challenge to the federal redistricting that had been done during the year before the election. Early in-person voting for the May 29 election occurred from May 14 through May 25. The final winner of many of the races in the May 29 election will be decided in a runoff primary election on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, with early in-person voting available Monday-Friday, July 23-27. Among the candidates to be decided on July 31 are the nominees of both major parties for the U. S. Senate seat from which Senator Hutchison is retiring at the beginning of 2013.
