When it comes to an AK47 how do you determine real from a clone?

They are all real or they are all clones depending on your definition. Nearly all the rifles being sold today are made from parts kits purchased from former Soviet block countries without a receiver and then built using newly manufactured U.S. made receivers. This gets these past the current ban on importation of so-called assault rifles because a parts kit is not technically a firearm unless it comes with a receiver. You may find some preban guns that were fully assembled in a foreign country but I don't know of any that are currently being imported.
