It causes electrons to gain energy and leace the chlorophyll molecule. As these electrons pass down an ETC(Electron Transport Chain), they lose energy, which is used to make ATP. (and ATP is adenosine triphosphate. Its basically an energy molecule)

It is " cracked " to provide electrons in replacement of the electrons that are excited to a higher energy state and enter photosystem II when photons of light strike the pigment chlorophyll. Hydrogen and oxygen are the result.

What is light reaction and dark reaction?

Photosynthesis can be divided into two part: light reaction is the first stage of photosynthesis, occurring only in the presence of light, during which energy captured from light drives the production of ATP. dark reaction is the second stage of photosynthesis, not requiring light to occur, and during which energy released from ATP drives the production of organic molecules from carbon dioxide.
