all there is to replacing the alternator is 1. loosin the belt 2. unscrew bottom screw on the alternator (cant miss it) 3. unscrew the top screw 4. remove the alternator from its place 5. remove the 2 power cords attached to the battery and whatnot. its easer than it looks
To get the alternator to fit out of the engine bay, you must remove the mounting brackets for the alternator as well. Once you remove the brackets, the alternator will fit out of the bottom of the engine bay. It will only fit out of the bottom, it will not come out through the top.

No you dont need to remove the power steering pump to get at the bolts. if you go directly down from the very bottom of the pully on the power steering pump the bolt holding the top of the alternator should be right there. all you have to do is remove it and the alternator should come out.
loosen bottom bolt on the alternator unit and push the alternator towards the engine block until you can remove the belt from the pulley on the alternator. Leave in the bottom bolt until you have removed the top bolt as it may need some levering with a small pry bar to pull the top of the alternator away, when the top is free remove the bottom bolt while holding the alternator so it wont fall, and remove the tension spring.
