According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etcetera )
for the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine in a 2003 Ford Escape
( 120,000 miles )
the manufacture reccomends it be replaced in 90,000 miles
It has a timing belt that should be replaced every 90,000 miles.
Timing belts for most vehicles are supposed to be replaced at 60k. Some vehicles at 90k.
The timing "chain"will start rattling at around the 100k to 110k mark. This is when it should be replaced
nissan micra has timing chain or cam chain and should be replaced at 200.000k
Timing chains normally last the life of the engine and are replaced when the engine is rebuilt.
It MUST be replaced every 105,000 miles or 10 years whichever comes first.
If it is a 4cyl then no. It has an upper and lower timing chain. If it is a 6cyl then yes. It has a timing belt, an idler, and a belt tentioner that all should be replaced at the same time.
60,000 miles you should have it checked to see if it needs replacing.
you should never have to replace the chain. not impossible but rare that this has to ever be replaced. if it is a 2000 to 2003 model with a 3.3l v6 it has a timing belt which needs to be replaced every 105000 miles.
According to the 2003 Ford Escape scheduled maintenance guide : For the 2.0 liter four cylinder engine : Change the timing belt at ( 120,000 miles )
2003 Toyota Camry 2.4L does NOT have a timing belt. It does have a Timing chain which DOES NOT need to be replaced.
