How do you add a hardtop to a softop?

you remove the soft top and install the hard top.I am not familiar with any application where the soft top stays on, but it is not impossible. on the Austin Healy 3000's and AC Cobras I build the soft and hard tops use the same mounting points so one has to come off for the other to go on

Is there a step by step procedure for removing the soft top on a 2004 wrangler?

Just release the 2 front latches on the front of the top behind the sun visors. Pull the lips out from under the tracks over the doors, remove the lips from the tracks around the door openings and back along the side of the body tub. Remove the lips from the tailgate channels and fold back the top. Remove the 4 torx screws holding the softop hardware to the roll bars. The top should come off by pulling straight back on the folded up top. Pull straight up on the half door window assemblies if you have them and remove them. How do you remove a Jeep Wrangler back seat?

It looks impossible but is quite easy. Flip seat up. On the inside of the bracket, on the rod, there is a removable clip. Remove the clip on both sides. Push inward on the bar going through the bracket. Then remove seat. ================================================== These instructions do not apply to 2010 or 2011 2-dr Wranglers. (And possibly not to any after 2007 model design changes.) For the 2011's if you have a softop, open swing-gate and unzip rear window about 3/4 up (if temperature is over, say, 50 degrees. Otherwise risk cracking the window.) Fold window up out of the way. Pull the seat release latch, then fold seat up and forward. You will see the front of seat is attached by brackets to the (welded, not bolted) horseshoe-shaped floor mounts. You will also see two steel rods connecting both brackets on the underside of the seat. One rod is thinner and flexes, while the other is larger diameter and rigid. Put you thumb under the thicker rod, and with other fingers grasp the thinner rod near either end where it goes through seat bracket. Now squeeze/pull the thinner rod back and down towards the thicker rod. (You may have to climb inside to get a good grip, unless you have really long arms!) This motion will release the catch holding the bracket to the floor mount. Lift up on bottom of the seat while still applying pressure to squeezing the thinner rod (helps to have a buddy to help lift it off while you are squeezing the rods.) Repeat for other side of seat. Turn seat so you can remove it through rear of Jeep. Also if you have the built-in woofer in back, be careful crawling around inside and while removing seat that you don't damage it. Store the seat and you're done!
