=Rollfilm or roll film is any type of spool-wound photographic film protected from white light exposure by a paper backing, as opposed to film which is protected from exposure and wound forward in a cartridge. Confusingly, roll film was originally often referred to as "cartridge" film because of its resemblance to a shotgun cartridge. The opaque backing paper allows roll film to be loaded in daylight. It is typically printed with frame number markings which can be viewed through a small red window at the rear of the camera. A spool of roll film is usually loaded on one side of the camera and pulled across to an identical take up spool on the other side of the shutter as exposures are made. When the roll is fully exposed, the take up spool is removed for processing and the empty spool on which the film was originally wound is moved to the other side, becoming the take up spool for the next roll of film.==Rollfilm was invented by George Eastman and first used in his Kodak box camera of 1888. Roll film remained the format of choice for inexpensive snapshot cameras through the end of the 1950s, the most common sizes being 127 and 828 for small format cameras and 120 and 116 for medium format cameras. The use of roll film in snapshot cameras was largely superseded by 135 and 126 cartridges, but 120 and 220 film is still commonly used in medium format cameras.=

In 1888 George Eastman received his patent and registered the trademark for the first roll film camera, which Eastman called the Kodak.

George Eastman was one of the most prolific inventors in the history of Photography. He had been an amateur photographer, but was very frustrated with the wet plate process of the time. In 1877 Eastman patented the first dry plate, which freed photographers from the tyranny of schlepping chemicals and dark tent into the field. But the plates were still glass, and fragile. Eastman wanted to put photographic emulsion on roll film, which led him to develop the Kodak, and the rest, as they say, is history.

George Eastman did neither. What Eastman did do was establish a system that simplified photography so that anyone who could afford his camera could take pictures. He invented a particular hand-held camera that required nothing more of the user than to point it and push the button, and he established the first commercial processing facilities to eliminate the need for the user to have his own darkroom. The first hand-held Eastman camera was the Eastman-Cossett Detective Camera of 1886, but it proved to be too expensive to manufacture, so only a few were produced. The first Kodak camera was introduced in 1888, and was an immediate success, in spite of the very high initial cost of $25 for the camera, and $10 to process the 100-image roll and reload the camera.

There are 4 events that can be taken as invention of filmmaking:

1872 Eadweard Muybridge photographed a running horse with several cameras displayed in a pararel track to determine if there is a moment when the horse feet did not touch ground. (first motion capture).

1882 Étienne-Jules Marey invented a chronophotographic gun and use it to shoot at 12fps some human and animal locomotion studies. (first motion capture in one device).

1895 Auguste and Louis Lumière began the exhibition of a film before a paying projection (Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès was in the audience).

1896 Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès, shoots and projects the very first movie in history of the universe: Le Manoir du Diable at the Theatre Robert Houdin, 8 boulevard des Italiens, Paris.

Who invented kodac camera?

Perhaps you mean Kodak camera. The first Kodak was a product of Eastman Dryplate and Film Company in 1888, and was made for Eastman by Frank Brownell. The Kodak was the first camera designed for flexible rollfilm. The first rollfilm used in the Kodak consisted of a gelatin emulsion on a paper base. In order to be printed, the gelatin had to be stripped off of the paper and remounted onto glass plates. Because this could not be done by the user, Eastman set up the first commercial processing facility, a move that may have been more significant to the future of amateur photography than the invention of rollfilm itself. The company motto: "You push the button, we do the rest." Within a short time, Eastman replaced the stripping film with Hannibal Goodwin's cellulose nitrate-based film, but the commercial processing remained to become a major industry. The word "Kodak" was created by George Eastman because he liked the strong sound of the letter "K," though a writer named Mina Fisher Hammer claimed in 1940 that Eastman stole the name from her Uncle. Her claims are based largely on childhood memories, are unsubstantiated and seem to be frivolous overall.
