When the HUGE and very secret power generator was built underground. You can gain entrance from an NYC subway, although if you did you would be executed or prosecuted for treason. The subway name is kept secret. The only people who know it's name are the people who went there once... and the agents assigned to protect the area. It can be destroyed by sand. It was built around World War 2, and anyone not assigned in that area (or a civilian) was automatically shot, because there was no subway at that time. If the generator was destroyed or shut down, half the country would lose power. That's how much power it makes. Whoa did I write all that? Signed, M. Smith I presume the question wanted to know the first date that NY got electricity. Probably aroundf 1880 or 1890 for a start in commercial and domestic use. The question did not ask the means of generation, nor wartime precautions.
