Rick Riordan was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. As a child, he grew up in a very artistic home with parents who were both educated and artistic. He was environment was ideal for his interest in reading and writing. Although it was not published, his first submission was at the young age of 13. Riordan had a profound love for Greek mythology and the first book he ever read was Lord of the Rings.
