High school football dates back to the late 19th century, concurrent with the start of many College Football programs. In the late 19th and early 20th century, many college and high school teams played against one another.

"Football" as in American Football was derived from Rugby, and appeared in a recognizable form around 1869, being further altered by Walter Camp (The Father of American Football). Camp played at Yale from 1876 to 1882 and coached football beginning in 1888.

That would be Westville High School Tigers in Westville, Ill. and I'm thinking in the late 1920's???

My proud high school claims to be the location of the first night high school football game.

We have a football that's painted white in our trophy case and autographed by the players from that game.

We have always been very proud of that. I also played football for the Tigers and graduated in 1985.

I am interested in knowing what anyone else's opinion is on the subject. I am looking at calendar put out by the Westville Lions Club. They have the date listed as Sept. 28, 1928. Hope that helps.

The game was indeed played in 1928. I have a Westville Centennial Celebration medallion (1973) with one side of the medallion commemorating the game. My aunt was a senior at Westville class of 1929 and is still living. My mother graduated in 1925. I have her high school annual from that year. The football team in the Fall of 1924 was undefeated and only scored upon in two games.
