Since Turkey and Iran modernized in the 1930s-1960s, it was during this period that there was corresponding development in Turkish and Iranian Kurdistan. Of course, since Kurdistan is an outlying region in both of these states, the development occurred much more slowly and much less completely. Iraqi Kurdistan benefited from having the petroleum wells in the Mosul area in terms of development, but true development for Iraqi Kurdistan has only come with autonomy as granted by the current Republic of Iraq (Post-Saddam). Syrian Kurdistan is still mostly rural and has not been properly developed at all.
