John Hancock was the President of the Continental Congress at the start of 1777. He was replaced by Henry Laurens on November 1.

There was no president of the US that time we just fought Great Britain. Then after a couple of years, that's when we thought about presidents, and that's how George Washington became the first presidentof the US.
