The 26th amendment was passed during the Vietnam war.

"old enough to fight, old enough to vote."

Young men were being drafted at 18 years old but could not vote for their countries leader.

Citizens and soldiers protested until finally congress gave in and passed the amendment on march 23 1971.

Changed the age from 21 to 18. That was in 1971 and until then you had to be 21 to vote.
