Going westwards from the California coast, and across the Pacific Ocean, an earthquake was recorded in the Samoan Islands. Another was recorded in Mindanao, Philippines. Still another was recorded in northern Qinghai, China.

Returning to the Americas, an earthquake was reported on the Pacific side of South America, at Antofagasta, Chile. Within the Caribbean that separates coastal North and South Americas, an earthquake was reported in the area of the Dominican Republic. Another two were reported in the area of Puerto Rico. Leaving the Caribbean and heading eastwards across the Atlantic, an earthquake was reported in the Azores Islands.

The last major earthquake in California was May 23, 2013. It occured approximately 20:47 (military hours) near Greenville and had a magnitude of 5.7. Luckily there were no casualties as a result of this earthquake.

In terms of magnitude the largest earthquake ever recorded in California was the the Fort Tejon earthquake of 1857 at 7.9 on the scale. Two people were killed. The 1906 San Franciso earthquake was slightly less powerful at 7.8 magnitude but it was far more devastating killing over 3000 people.
