the Holocaust was here in 1944 and 1945. The holocaust referred to the period of 1940 to 1945 when it became the Policy of the government of Germany to eliminate The Jewish component of it population as well as that of the the country's that it overpowered. Jews were not the only victims of the death camps which were spread all over Europe and many millions of people were murdered during that time for any number of reasons.

The estimated number of people murdered in the death camps is approximately 6 Million (6,000,000).

There is some confusion here. The Holocaust refers to the Nazi genocide of the Jews in 1941-1945 during World War 2. The word is sometimes used to refer to all systematic killings by the Nazis on the basis of group identity. The word does not refer to a period in history.

The Holocaust began when Hitler came into power on January 1933 and ended on May 6th 1945 when Germany signed an Unconditional Surrender to the Allies. However the main part of the Holocaust Happened between September 1st 1939- May 6th 1945.
