Plans by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to build the the two World Trade Center buildings got underway in 1962.

In 1966 construction began on the buildings. The north tower opened for business in December 1970 while the south tower didn't open its doors until January 1972. Dedication of the buildings followed in April of 1973.
