If we do not cause the planet's life to die out (by pollution, climate change etc.), it will for certain occur in approx. 4 billion years when the Sun burns out. It may also happen in half that time depending on the relative strengths of two circumstances: The Sun gets hotter and will burn the closer planets; or The Sun gets lighter and will therefore allow the planets to increase the distance at which they orbit around the Sun, which will protect against the heat.
