The moon is already drifting away from Earth. The other plants, and the sun, are pulling it closer to them. The moon moves a little less then a centimeter a year, but it is moving further away. Sooner than later, we might be moonless!

What happens if earth fell out of its orbit?

This is impossible but, the earth would keep spinning for a while but would be swirling further and further away from its neighbouring planets and we would freeze immediately. The moon would probably slow to but as the earths gravity weakens, the moon would drift away from us.

Why does the moon not crash on earth but stay in space and not float away or into earth?

The moon and other planets and their satellites are held in space by the force of gravity from other planets and satellites. If the moon tried to drift off into space, gravitational forces from the Earth will keep it from floating away. It doesn't crash into the Earth because planets and moons pull AGAINST each other and keep each other from drifting away.* * * * *Only partly true. The moon does not float away because of the action of earth's gravity - whether you view this as a force or a distirtion of space-time in the moon's path. The moon does not crash into the earth, not because of other planets or satellites, but because of the momentum of its orbit around the earth.

How far away is the Moon from Earth this month?

I want to know the exact date the moon is furthest away from the earth.

How can the moon move 1.5 inches away from the earth each year?

No, quite the opposite. The Moon's orbit (its circular path around the Earth) is getting larger, at a rate of about 3.8 centimeters per year. (The Moon's orbit has a radius of 384,000 km.) I wouldn't say that the Moon is getting closer to the Sun, specifically, though--it is getting farther from the Earth, so, when it's in the part of its orbit closest to the Sun, it's closer, but when it's in the part of its orbit farthest from the Sun, it's farther away

How much does the moon move away from earth each year?

The moon moves about 4cm away from the earth each year. This is because the moons orbit around the earth is tilted about 5 degrees. The moon is spiraling away from the earth and one day we might not have a moon.

How long will it take for the moon to drift out of our orbit?

The Moon will drift farther and farther from Earth, while Earth slows down, until Earth always shows the Moon the same face (just as the Moon already shows Earth the same face all the time). It doesn't seem that the Moon will completely escape from Earth's gravity.
