if your milage is at or over 60,000 your belt should be replaced. The water pump as a norm is not regulated by milage and may give continual service indefinatly, however the 70.00 price tag over the 600.00 labor to replace(and seeing as how for the most part the water pump forgoes the timing belt and all say if replaceing the water pump definitely replace the T. belt)I'd recommend doing both and resting assured.

It depends on the motor..if you have overhead cam...then YES. The timing belt has to be removed when the water pump is changed and the cam sprockets have to be set to correct timing when the belt is replaced.

When do you change the timing belt on a 05 1.9tdi octavia?

I have just purchased a 2nd hand Octavia 2.0L Combi, model year 2006is, it has run approximately 96k km. My question is when is the appropriate schedule to change the timing belt, and is the Octavia like any other car i.e. when you changed the timing belt then it is wise to change the water cooling pump as well. What about the pulley and tensioner shouldn't it be changed together? Change the belt every 90,000 miles. If the belt drives the water pump also change it at the same time. You do not have to pulley or tension unless it is defective.

It is most likely the water pump...If you change the pump also change the timing belt and the timing belt tension pully! I just changed all that in mine and now it runs at normal temps.
