Later, if the oral medication does not cure it, they may give you a shot or IV antibiotics which may be uncomfortable, but not as much as the sore throat. Don't delay treatment with antibiotics, you could be spreading the germs and untreated strep infections can lead to serious problems like infection of the heart muscle, anemia, kidney inflammation and other complications.
