I put quite a bit of mileage on my 2001 Kia Sportage and had to replace the timing belt at 100,000 miles. I have owned the car for 5 years. I was driving on the freeway doing 70 miles an hours when all the power shut down and the car would not start back up although it would crank. Hope that helps you.
this question has been answered under 2000 kia sportage timing belt replacement.
It is depended on the condition of your timing belt
They say it is after 100.000 Km.
4cylinder . two cams = 12:00. crankshaft 12:oo, and the other one 11:00. see 2000 sportage, i have answered it there several times.

You don't! The computer, crank and cam sensors control timing.
I have a 2002 kia sportage and my timing belt was $500 labor and parts. I took it to a Kia dealership to get it replaced. Because we have only 2 years apart im pretty sure its going to be about the same price.
Change it every 90,000 miles.
i like to know if there is a diagram or video to change spark plugs on a 2000 kia sportage if there is where can i find it?
go 2 the dealer they can print u out one pretty cheap
you have to basically gut the front of the engine past the timing belt, it is alot of work ,but it can be done, remember once you remove timing belt you have to time cams, crankshaft and tensioner. I already have answered this whole procedure in previous answers.com . try 2000 kia sportage timing belt.
Only the 2.5 Liter 4 cylinder has a timing belt. Replace it at 120,000 miles. The V6 has a timing chain.
You never need to replace the timing chain if the engin use timing chain(not timing belt).
That particular model does not have a chain,, it has a belt. and it needs to be changed at 60k or it will BREAK!
2000 Toyota Celica have timing chains.
For safety, a machanic man will do that job for your Kia.
you dont. It is auto timed thru the camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor, You have to have the timing belt timing marks right on to get correct timing.
