Beets are a hardy root crop and can be grown just about anywhere with a long enough growing season, as far north as much of Canada and throughout most of Europe. They can survive light frost although the tops will die and the beet will stop growing. They cannot survive being frozen.

The name beetroot is applied to beets, the vegetable, grown in much of the world, notably in southern Europe and in North and Central America.

Beetroot can be grown across a wide range of climates. it is sown as a warmer season crop in most regions, but performs best during the cooler, drier months in the tropical zones.
