On a 1984 Nissan 300ZX the fuel pump turns on with the key. For a couple of seconds to pressurize the fuel system for initial start-up. Once the engines oil pressure has raised to normal operating pressure. The fuel pump remains on.
The fuel tank capacity is 19.0 gallons i have an 87 300zx and it only has an 8 gallon tank.
start at the engine, where the fuel enters the injector rail, then follow the hose, through all the filters & pumps (not sure if a 300zx has an external or internal fuel pump) & continue all the way back to th fuel tank, look for seepages, & wet spots on the fuel line.
The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank, which is accessed from inside the trunk.
