Valves are like doors that only open in one direction. Blood cannot back-flow; it can only go in the direction the valve opens. If a valve does not close properly, there can be black-flow which causes symptoms.

Heart valves act as traffic cops. They guide the blood flow through the heart and do not allow for the back flow of blood. It keeps the blood moving in the correct direction. If you have a problem with the valves you can end up with a leaking valve which means the valve is not closing properly and blood is backing up in an area it should not be. The overall result of this is not having a proper amount of blood oxygenating the body.

Hope this helps

They keep the blood from going the wrong way in the heart. They also provide the heart sounds that I hear (by clapping closed suddenly) when I listen to my heart with a stethoscope.
They make sure that the blood pumping through it goes only one way. tHEY PREVENT THE BACK FLOW OF BLOOD.When blood flows from auricles to ventricles the tricuspid and bicuspid valves open and the blood flows into ventricles. due to increase in pressure in ventricles these valves close rapidly. Similarly when blood flows from ventricles to artries the semi-lunar valve close
valves in the heart are meant to prevent backflow and regulate the flow of blood through the heart. they close when the chambers need to refill.

each chamber holds blood with different oxygen content (low oxygen or high oxygen). the valves are there to keep the blood separate so that the blood can flow properly from chamber to chamber, into the lungs and then back into the heart and to the body.
Valves in the heart prevent the blood from flowing in the wrong direction. To keep the blood going only in one direction.

You have two heart valves between atria and ventricles. On right side you have tricuspid valve and on left side you have bicuspid or mitral valve. You have pulmonary valve between your right ventricle and the pulmonary aorta. You have the aortic valve between the left ventricle and the aorta. The valves are necessary to prevent the back flow of the blood. With out the valves the blood will come back to the respective heart chamber and the contractions will be ineffective.

Where the arteries and veins attach to the heart.

The valves prevent back-flow, allowing blood to go only one way: in from the veins and out to the arteries.

Why does the heart need valves?

The reason why we need we need valves in our heart is because the valves in our heart will open and close. When the valves in our heart open, they allow blood to go into places in our body where blood is needed. When the blood passes through, the valve closes. They regulate the blood flow.
