It is located in the Y pipe of the exhaust.
There are 2 oxygen sensors on a 2001 SS Monte Carlo.
The 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo cooling fan sensors are located on the firewall, in the engine compartment. The cooling fan sensors will be on the passenger side of the firewall.
There are two O2 sensors on the 96 Monte z'er. The upstream sensor in located in the "y" pipe before of the cat. The downstream sensor is located after the cat but before the expansion chamber.

1)Upstream sensor is located in the "y" pipe ahead of the catalytic converter. 2)Downstream sensor is located between the catalytic converter and the expansion chamber.
They are always on exhaust system usually one or 2 on manifolds if you have 2 banks before convertor and 1 behind convertor
They are screwed into the exhaust system / pipes. Start looking up close to the engine and work your way back to the muffler and you will see them. There about 3 to 4 inches long with an elctric wire coming out of the top of them.
UNDER HOOD, CENTER, REAR ENGINE AREA, ABOVE EXHAUST PIPE FLANGE, MOUNTED IN EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
