The spark plugs are located under the intake manifold. Nightmare of a design........ Had a shop quote 280.00 due to the labor involved. .
ON A 2.4L 4 CLY ENGINE THE SPARK PLUGS ARE ON TOP OF THE ENGINE. THERE SHOULD BE 2 IGNITION COILS THAT HAVE 2 10MM BOLTS EACH HOLDING THEM DOWN AND 2 PLUG WIRES THAT POP OFF. THE 2.5L AND 2.7L V-6 ENGINES HAVE 3 SPARK PLUGS UNDERNEATH THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WHICH MUST BE REMOVED.
I have a 2000 Sonata with the 2.4L 4 Cyl. if it is the same engine, they are on the top of the engine, under the black plastic cover (around the oil filler) remove the 4 10mm bolts, and the cover lifts right off. there you will see the plugs, with a coil pack directly on top of 2&4, with short plug wires running to 1&3. both coil packs are secured with 2 more 10 mm bolts. if someone tells yo the plugs are under the intake manifold on this engine, they are mistaken, those are the injectors.

If it is the V6, the plugs are located 3 in the front and 3 in the back. The 3 in front are accessible by removing the plastic cover of the engine. The 3 in back need access by removing the header.
