Where are volcanoes?

Volcanoes are located in many places on Earth. Many of them are found around the Ring of Fire which follows the rim of the Pacific Ocean in a huge subduction zone created by plate subduction. Rift volcanoes are at the heart of the mid-oceanic rifts, divergent plate boundaries where new oceanic crust is created. Volcanoes occur also at 'hot spots', such as the Hawaiian Island Chain, where hot material melts through the crust in intraplate volcanism.
