Can you carry a handgun in public in Texas?

In addition to the information on the below link to Texas law (see page 31 for where not to carry) you may not carry in facilities of the Federal government, such as the Post Office, Federal offices, or military facilities.

With a CHL, yes. Without a CHL you can in your vehicle IF:

1 it is concealed

2 it must your vehicle or a vehicle under your control

3 legally able to possess the handgun

4 not committing any crime other than class c traffic

5 not a member of a street gang

Texas Penal Code Section 46.02

Texas does not allow open carry of handguns (peace officers).

Without a CHL you can carry it on:

1. Your property

2. Motor vehicle or watercraft IF:

a. it is your vehicle or a vehicle under your control

b. it must be concealed

c. not committing any crime other than class c traffic

d. legally able to possess the handgun

e. not a member of a street gang

With a CHL you can not carry it:

1 in school buildings or at school functions

2 in polling places

3 court buildings

4 racetrack

5 secured area of an airport

6 at the Huntsville Unit (The Walls) on a day of execution

7 where a property owner or a person in charge informed then to not enter

8 anywhere the property owner placed a sign that says "Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by holder of license to carry a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (concealed handgun law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun"
