actually. if you download a program called Clickster you can. It uses Google and internet databases to find MP3's therefore it is legal because they are the same MP3's you would find through a search engine and it does not involve P2P (also means the risk of viruses goes WAYYY down)

However, the "free" version only lets you download about 47 songs a day (220MB) unless you buy the "pro" version for $24.95. But 47 free, legal songs a day isn't bad!

esnips.com has a download feature on most of its mp3s

On projectplaylist.com, you can download music for free just by creating an account. You don't need to put any creditcard information, just enter a register, form a username, and a password. You make a playlist, or just listen to music without registering. Also, you can post your playlist on your myspace or facebook account.

You can download music from spiralfrog.com for free. All you have to do is sign up for an account you DO NOT have to pay anything. After that every 30 days you take a survey on how you like the site and your music will stay free. Try it its a great site.

Well what i do is use zamzar (type it in on Google and its the first link) and go to download videos, it will ask you to put in a URL, which is the set of words/numbers at the top of your web browser usually beginning with "www." etc. you find the song on YouTube and put the URL from youtube into this are using copy+paste.

Next it will require the file format that you want e.g mp3 or wmv, this gives you the option if you want the video as well if not just use mp3. then put in your email address and hit "convert".

Within a few minutes you will have a new email, open it and find the link just below the blue box within the email and click on it, once this page loads hit download now and save the file.

This seems like a lengthy process but it can be done relatively quick and is one of few 100 percent no scam methods of downloading music.

There's Spiral Frog, but they don't really have a wide selection. There's also Imeem, but I don't think you can do anything either than listen to the music on the computer.
