The USS Vulcan AR-5 was a Repair Ship, launched in 1941. In addition to serving in the pre-war Iceland Campaign, the Vulcan served in the Invasions of Sicily, July 1943 & Southern France, Aug. 1944. yes we did America knew what was going on in Germany but did nothing, also there was a ship full of Jewish people that wanted to come to America during the war we would not let them off their ship and they ended up going back to Germany and some died in prison camps. you can go to the history channel to find this nad much more to answer your question
