The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Italian: Torre pendente di Pisa) or simply The Tower of Pisa (La Torre di Pisa) is the campanile, or freestanding bell tower, of the cathedral of the Italian city of Pisa. Construction began around the year 1173 and the upper floors were completed in 1319.

It is a seven-story white marble structure which is famous for "leaning" due to the uneven settling of its foundation. The bell tower atop the building, completed in 1372, was built "against the tilt" and is nearly vertical.

The third floor was completed in 1178 and the building began tilting almost immediately. By 1964, the tilt was more than 5.5° from vertical. By 2008, removal of soil from the high side of the foundation established a permanent tilt of just under 4° for the tower. The horizontal offset of the upper floor is nearly 13 feet compared to its base width of just under 51 feet.
