Currently in Production are the 160 GB and 320 GB harddrive sizes in the PS3 slim models. Earlier Slim Models had the 120 GB and 250GB Harddrives. The first PS3 had 20 GB and 60 GB harddrives, Later models also had 40 GB then the 80 GB and a Special Edition with 160 GB harddrives. They are all standard laptop size harddrives and all models can be upgraded to larger harddrives. The HDD must be a 2.5" internal Serial ATA HDD.
During the September 2010 model change the harddrive size increased to 320 GB and 160 GB .
In the USA on September 14 2011 for $249.99 you can get a new 160 GB PS3 slim model today in the UK it was about 170 GBP
They take a standard laptop harddrive so any store that sells harddrives for a laptop

Yes PS3 uses a standard lap top hard drive and you do not even need to use one from PS3
PS3s were made with different size harddrives
nope
All PS3s can have the Hard drive replaced with a 250 GB or larger size hard drive, but the 250 slim is the only 250 GB PS3 Model Sony has sold.
you can delete it by transferring it to an extrenal hard drive, I believe.
It is the same as a laptop hard drive
Hard drive.
You look at the Model number and you can then see the harddrive size for that model number at the PlayStation support network.
You can use a hard drive from a laptop, but a normal size computer hard drive will not fit. I"m not sure how to install or format the drive, but do an internet search on "PS3 forums" and you will find the official PS3 forums. Go digging there and you will find how to get this done.
You may upgrade your hard drive on a PS3. 160GB could be less than $100 depending on where you purchase it.
