Most of your local music stores will have some sort of rental program. If you go to school most offer some sort of program to rent it for the school year in band.
If i were you i would rent it first to see how you do then if you are doing well take it back to the store and buy a trumpet, (I would suggest a Bach Omega or a King Silverflare)
A decent trumpet on eBay can cost $100-$200 dollars. But when you go to a store to buy it, it can cost up to $1000 dollars, but it's usually around $500. My advice would be to rent it out until you've paid for it.
