Abraham Lincoln did not attend law school. He had no formal education. His step mother taught him to read. He was a prolific reader and among other books he read several law books, the most important was Blackstone's Commentaries on Law, considered the key reference of the time. In those days it was sufficient to know the law to apply to practice and two Justices of the Illinois Supreme Court issued him a provisional license.
