Albert Einstein (1879 - 1955) was a very clever young man. From the age of five it was noticed that he displayed extraordinary reasoning abilities and had oustanding scientific and mathematical inclinations. In addition to normal schooling, from the age of about 10, he was helped in more academic matters by a family friend, Max Talmud. As Einstein grew in understanding and abilities he taught himself many things, including complex theories of geometry.
In his early teens he went to a secondary school in Munich, Germany, called The Luitpold-Gymnasium. But he left that school because it was not adequate for him. Consequently he left school with no qualifications. He later tried to enter ETH Zürich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, - a science and technology university in Zurich, Germany) but failed the entrance exam.
To complete his secondary education he was sent to a school in Aarau, Switzerland. Meanwhile he was continuing his self-tuition. He graduated from that secondary school at the age of 17. Later he re-applied to ETH and studied mathematics, graduating in 1900 with a physics degree.
