What team was the the first NFL team?

Arizona Cardinals, 1898
Actually, they weren't the Arizona Cardinals in 1898, they were
the Morgan Street Normals, the team of the Morgan Street (Chicago)
Athletic Club. But they went on to be known as the Morgan Street
Cardinals, the Racine Cardinals, the Chicago Cardinals, the St.
Louis Cardinals, the Phoenix Cardinals, and, indeed, today's
Arizona Cardinals.

Aren't the Detroit Lions the oldest organization?

Not in the NFL. The oldest team in the NFL is the Arizona
Cardinals who began as an amateur team called the Morgan Athletic
Club in Chicago in 1898. There are two teams from the first year of
the NFL (1920) that still exist. The Chicago Bears began play in
1920 as the Decatur Staleys and the Arizona Cardinals began play in
1920 as the Chicago Cardinals. The Lions began play as the
Portsmouth Spartans in 1929 and joined the NFL in 1930. The team
was bought by a group from Detroit and moved there and renamed the
team 'Lions' in 1934.

How long did the NFL cardinals play in Chicago?

The Chicago Cardinals formed in 1918, but have a lineage that
traces back to 1898. After World War I ended in 1918, the team
reformed and has been in existence ever since.
In 1920, the Cardinals were one of the original teams to join
the American Professional Football Association, which would be
re-named the National Football League two years later.
The Cardinals remained in Chicago until the conclusion of the
1959 season, when they moved to St. Louis.
