Esau took his family to the land of Seir (Genesis ch.36), where he intermarried with the Horites and gradually became dominant. This is the region of Petra, in southern Jordan, east of the Dead Sea, whose ruins can still be seen.

Later, some or all of the descendants of Esau moved to Italy (Rashi commentary, Genesis 27:39), where they became (or joined) the Patrician class of Rome.
