Answer Catherine was the daughter of Sir Thomas Parr, an English nobleman from Kendall in the North West of England, and his wife, Maud Green. In 1529, aged about 15, Catherine had married Edward Borough, Baron of Gainsborough, who died in 1533. They had no children. In 1534 she married John Nevill, Baron Latymer from Yorkshire in England. Baron Latymer was a frequent visitor to Henry's Court and it was probably on one of these visits that she first met the King. Baron Latymer died in March 1543 and again there were no children.

Henry had a considerable number of residences all around England at the time he married Katherine Parr, from small hunting lodges right up to Windsor Castle. However, his main homes at the time were Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace, and Whitehall Palace. They were married in Hampton Court, and she spent most of her time there.

Whitehall Palace was destroyed by fire in 1698, and the British Government offices of Whitehall now stand on the site, although some rampart foundations of it remain there to commemorate it's existence. At the time of his death, the King was having built a gigantic new palace in Surrey, known as Nonsuch Palace because there was to be 'none such to compare with it' in all England. Work started in 1538, but it remained unfinished when Henry died in 1547. It was finally finished in the 1550s and was a most beautiful building, similar in appearance to Hampton Court but set in beautiful parkland and deer reserves. It was used by subsequent monarchs until the reign of Charles II, who gave it to his mistress Barbara Villiers, Duchess of Cleveland. Villiers was a chronic gambling addict, and had the palace dismantled and it's materials sold off to repay her debts, although Nonsuch Park remains to this day.
