According to the Shakespearean play, King Macbeth died in a sword fight with Macduff. Macduff suspected Macbeth of having killed King Duncan I [d. August 14, 1040]. Not too long after the killing of the King, Macbeth had Macduff's entire family and household killed. According to the historical record, King Macbeth [d. August 15, 1057] may have died at the battle at Lumphanan. He was mortally wounded by the future King Malcolm III [d. November 13, 1093], one of King Duncan I's sons. Or he may have died a few days after the battle, at Scone where he had been crowned 17 years earlier. Either way, he was buried at the royal burial ground on the island of Iona, off the west coast of Scotland. That was also the final resting place of his predecessor, King Duncan I.
Yes, Macbeth [d. August 15, 1057] died. According to historical records, Macbeth was a real, historical figure. He was mortal and therefore was going to die sooner or later. There were many differences between the Shakespearean play and the historical records. William Shakespeare [Baptized April 26, 1564-April 23, 1616] included witches who clearly didn't lead lives according to mortal standards. But he respected the historical record in making Macbeth mortal.
According to the Shakespearean play, Macbeth [d. August 14, 1040] died because of the murders that he had carried out himself, or that he had chosen others to do for him. That was why he was killed by Macduff, whose entire family and householdhad been killed under Macbeth's orders. Additionally, Macduff resented Macbeth's having killed King Duncan I [d. August 14, 1040] and having ruled for 17 bloodied, tyrannical years. But according to the historical record, Macbeth died from mortal wounds at the battle of Lumphanan. Those wounds were delivered by the subsequent King Malcolm III [d. November 13, 1093], one of the sons of King Duncan I. Malcolm's father actually hadn't died during a visit to Macbeth's castle at Inverness. Instead, the historical record has indicated that King Duncan I was killed by his own men for having launched an unprovoked, unpopular and unjust invasion of Macbeth's lands.
Yes, Macbeth was the type to fight to the death. Macbeth's two most dominant characteristics were his courage and his ambition. William Shakespeare [Baptized April 26, 1564-April 23, 1616] began and ended his play 'Macbeth' with Macbeth exhibiting both those characteristics in battle. His courage was shown in the stamina and strength that he brought to the battlefield. His ambition was shown in the good job that he always sought to do and to be recognized for. Both characteristics motivated him to throw himself in the very middle of any fray. Macbeth didn't shirk from insurmountable odds, in Act 1, when he fought overwhelming forces of invading Norwegians and treacherous Scotsmen. Neither did he shirk from insurmountable odds, in Act 5, when he fought what he was warned to fear: Macduff, as a man born by Caesarian section from a dead mother. Macbeth was first and foremost a fighter. He was introduced to us as a fighter, he maintained that fighting spirit throughout the play, and he died fighting.
She certainly dies, but the play gives no indication whatsoever how she died. The messenger just says, "The Queen, my lord, is dead." Malcolm afterwards suggests that she committed suicide, but since he just described her as "fiendlike", he can hardly be considered impartial.
