Matthew's Gospel tells us that the Judean town of Bethlehem was the home town of Mary and Joseph. It was not until after the death of King Herod that they turned aside and travelled to Nazareth in Galilee, because it was still too dangerous for them in Judea.
Luke's Gospel tells us that the Galilean town of Nazareth was the home town of Mary and Joseph. They only spent a short time in Bethlehem because of a census ordered by Caesar Augustus, through the Syrian governor, Quirinius (6-12 CE).
In Luke's Gospel, Mary and Joseph travelled from their home in Nazareth, to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. A few weeks after Jesus was born, the travelled back from Bethlehem to Nazareth, via Jerusalem, where they presented Jesus at the Temple.
In Matthew's Gospel, Bethlehem was actually the home town of Mary and Joseph, so they did not need to come from anywhere else. However, some time soon after the birth of Jesus they had to flee from their home in Bethlehem to Egypt, for fear of King Herod who wished to have Jesus killed. After the death of Herod, perhaps some years later, they began the return journey back from Egypt to their home in Bethlehem but, being warned in a dream, turned aside and travelled to Galilee, where they settled in a city called Nazareth.
Matthew's Gospel says that Bethlehem, Judea was the home town of Mary and Joseph. This is demonstrated by the fact that the wise men found Jesus in a house, not a stable. They fled from Bethlehem to Egypt until after the death of King Herod, and then began the return journey to Bethlehem but, being warned in a dream, turned aside and travelled to a new home in Nazareth in Galilee.
Luke's Gospel says that Nazareth, Galilee was their home town. They travelled to Bethlehem for a census and then returned peacefully home to Nazareth, via Jerusalem, just a few weeks after the birth of Jesus.
From the little bit of information in the New Testament Mary and Joseph may have been from Nazareth. Joseph allegedly was of the lineage of King David. We do not have Mary's family tree history. There is an abundace of speculation and "wish-it-were-true-so-it-is", but no definitive information exists.
(Luke 1:26-33) 26 In her sixth month, the angel Gaʹbri·el was sent from God to a city of Galʹi·lee named Nazʹa·reth, 27 to a virgin promised in marriage to a man named Joseph of David's house, and the name of the virgin was Mary. 28 And coming in, the angel said to her: "Greetings, you highly favored one, Jehovah is with you." 29 But she was deeply disturbed at his words and tried to understand what kind of greeting this might be. 30 So the angel said to her: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And look! you will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus. 32 This one will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and Jehovah God will give him the throne of David his father, 33 and he will rule as King over the house of Jacob forever, and there will be no end to his Kingdom."
Matthew's Gospel indicates that Mary and Joseph lived in Bethlehem until the birth of Jesus, but then moved to Nazareth after a sojourn in Egypt. Luke's Gospel says they lived in Nazareth, both before and after the birth of Jesus.
Raymond E. Brown (An Introduction to the New Testament) says that in Matthew's Gospel, Mary and Joseph lived in a house in Bethlehem, which was presumably their ancestral home town, whereas in Luke's Gospel they came from Nazareth and only visited Bethlehem because of a census.

Joseph and Mary were traveling as a decree had gone out by Augustus that all must register in their own town. So Joseph was traveling with Mary to Bethlehem.
Yes. Matthew says that Bethlehem was the home town of Mary and Joseph, and that Jesus was born there. Luke also says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, but in this story, Nazareth is the home town of Mary and Joseph.
It doesn't.
We do not know anything about Joseph or where he was born, but we can make an educated guess. People tended to live in the town in which they were born. In Matthew's Gospel, Bethlehem seems to be the home town of Mary and Joseph, so Joseph was probably born in Bethlehem. In Luke's Gospel, Nazareth was the home town of Mary and Joseph, so Joseph was probably born in Nazareth.
No doubt Mary and Joseph would have been bethrothed in their home town, like most other people of their time. Matthew's Gospel says that Bethlehem, Judea was their home town until after the death of King Herod, while Luke's Gospel says that Nazareth, Galilee was their home town.
A:Mathew's Gospel tells us that Bethlehem was the home town of Joseph and Mary. Jesus was born there, conceived by the Holy Spirit. They fled to Egypt out of fear of King Herod and only much later travelled to Galilee, where they settled in a city called Nazareth. The more popular nativity account that says Nazareth was the home town of Joseph and Mary is in Luke's Gospel.
Mary gave birth to Jesus and Joseph married Mary.
