Nickelodeon Television takes its name from the name given to the first indoor movie theatres. The name was made up, combining the Greek odeon, which referred to a small roofed building where musical events were held, and nickel, American slang for the five-cent coin that was the usual price of admission.

Nickelodeon, meant in the '20's "an old entertainment and movie theatre". That name was a combination of "odeon", a kind of theatre, and "nickel", for its 5-cent admission price.

The TV channel used its name so it would give off the impression that the channel played a lot of good movies and shows.
