Picasso's parents gave him his name! Answer 2: It is a bit more complicated than that. His Christian names, which are a lot more than just Pablo, were of course given him by his parents. His father's family name was Ruiz, but Pablo the painter thought his mother's family name, Picasso, looked better. So he used this.

Picasso's full name is Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Pablo means "small, famous bearer" and Ruiz means "famous ruler". Picasso does not have any known meaning.

Pablo is the same as Paul. Picasso cannot be translated.
