Depends on the time period. In the 1700's EVERYONE was an immigrant. The only ones who weren't were the Native Americans. In that time they settled the 13 colonies and 48% were English farmers. There were others from Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Italy, and other places. As time went on millions came to the United States in the 1800's to find new lives and leave behind old worlds. They lived everywhere, made businesses, invented things, created neighborhoods, introduced music and foods to the Americans who were all ready settled. Over 60% of the soldiers in the civil war were Irish immigrants who signed up to fight as they came off the ships. Even today they add to the society and vibrancy of the United States.

Depends on where they landed or what they wanted to do. The United States is a nation of immigrants and they created the world you live in. If you have a taco today or Pizza thank an immigrant. The biggest steal mills were owned by a Scottish immigrant who took his money and built libraries all over the United States. President Andrew Jackson’s parents were Scottish immigrants and his brother died in the revolution fighting for the Patriots. If you have a Christmas tree thank the German immigrants or a carved pumpkin at Halloween thank the Irish immigrant.
