The European Theater of Operations was fought at the same time as the Pacific Theater of Operations. It was determined the Japanese could be defeated after the Nazis were defeated in theory and they were correct. Thanks to the Russians to fight from the Eastern Front the allied forces could focus on the Western Front. This allowed the Allied Forces to place a huge military might against the Nazis. Once the Nazis were defeated many of the soldiers, Marines, airmen and sailors were told they would be transferred to the Pacific Theater of Operations. They were spared having to fight the Japanese on their mainland island of Japan because Emperor Hirohito surrendered.
